Creamy Dreamy Hot Cocoa

creamy dreamy hot cocoa 2

Happy December 1st!  Since we had rain yesterday I thought it’d be nice and cold today.  Not so.  Does that stop me from making wintry day treats?  Uh-uh.  Because if I was in the habit of cancelling such things due to our weather, well, I’d NEVER make wintry treats.  Cold here is when the temp dips below 68.  😉  So I went with my plan to have a big ol’ slow cooker full of my creamiest hot cocoa perched on my counter this morning to greet my family and late morning guests. Cubes o’ Coffee & Bubble-wrapped Baryshnikov

Warning:  Rambling post ahead.  I blame coffee(ha!).  Rambling!

I’m a coffee late bloomer.  I don’t remember when I decided I loved it, but I was an adult (those who know me would argue then that I can’t be a coffee lover yet…behave).  Probably was in my mid to late 20s before I truly enjoyed a delicious, steaming mug of coffee and never looked back.

I don’t drink it daily, but when I do?  Boy, do I enjoy it.  I don’t discriminate either.  Why should I?  I love an iced coffee, gulping it with no shame, and then bouncing off non-existent walls because caffeine is like a bull in a china cabinet in my system.  Doesn’t stop me though.

And this has nothing to do with anything, but it popped into my head just now…

Hot Cocoa with Almond Milk

Remember how I said I’m purging mountains of magazines?  And that I have to go through each magazine and tear out the recipes, pictures, inspiration before tossing them?  Well, this recipe is from one of those mags…from 2007.  Well, hey, at least I try out the recipes now and then!

We only recently started drinking almond milk on occasion (without giving up our beloved regular milk, too), so I was eager to try almond milk hot cocoa.  Continue reading

DIY Project: Homemade Coffee Creamer

Today I tackled another do-it-yourself project on my 2012 DIY list: homemade vanilla coffee creamer.  Why haven’t I been making this homemade creamer all my coffee-drinking life?

I followed Deliciously Organic’s recipe and it could not have been easier.  It was so easy, in fact, that I let my 3-year old do all the work.  I merely set out the ingredients and took pictures.  I have a sous chef!  Continue reading
