Our Menu (Week of April 29, 2012)

Berry ebelskiver–Yes, that’s bacon in the background, but we aren’t eating bacon this week.  How sad for us. 😦

Hi all!  I’m lagging big time today and I’ve zero motivation to plan a menu.  I should have done it last night or this morning, but I’m actually planning it as I type it.  Whoops.  I went against my “rules” and went to the grocery store this morning with only a little list and a vague idea of what we’ll be eating this week.  I’m usually armed with my menu plan and a full list.  Let this not be an indicator of the week ahead..

I’m trying not to be crabby over the fact that our neighborhood chain grocery store is somewhat lacking in the “friendly” department.  I try to ignore it, but some days it really irritates me that so few of the employees at this specific store can muster a smile, a hello, or even a nod.  Another reason I love the little market I frequent and am glad we rely on so few items from the grocery chain.  Ah well, bigger fish to fry, right?

Here’s what’s on our menu this week:

  • Egg scramble, cinnamon toast, apples (camping)
  • Ebelskiver with homemade blackberry jam, fruit salad, milk
  • Oatmeal with oat bran, bananas, and raisins, o.j. x 2
  • Baked apple cider doughnuts, fruit smoothies
  • Toast & fruit, Green monster smoothies
  • Biscuits n’ gravy, pineapple, o.j.

  • Leftovers x 2 plus fruit
  • P.b and jelly, fruit, yogurt
  • Peas n’ pasta, slow cooker applesauce, melon
  • Chicken & cheese quesadillas, pineapple, crackers
  • Snack-ey lunch (homemade hummus & crackers, raspberries/grapes/melon, cheese shapes)
  • Mac-veggies & cheese, yogurt, apple slices

  • Sautéed veggies, brown rice (going light after a weekend of camping food 🙂 )
  • Pizza and salad
  • Potato corn chowder, savory bread, simple salad
  • Oven fried chicken, pasta salad, broccoli (Munchie girl chose this menu based off Paula Deen episodes she watched–she loves watching Paula–and she always picks broccoli as her veg if she can)
  • Daddy-daughter dinner out (while mom is at Mom’s Night Dinner)
  • Hamburgers, twice baked potatoes, corn on the cob, salad
  • Leftovers Night

  • Fruit & veggies
  • Hummus and multi-grain crackers
  • Yogurt and granola

Freezer Cooking Session:  I don’t do a traditional once-a-month session, but generally choose 2 or 3 recipes.

(Skipping this week)

What’s on your menu this week?  Where do you do most of your grocery shopping?

Please feel free to link up to your menu as well!

  1. I’m so impressed that you plan your meals. I only do it occasionally, and then I don’t end up following my plans. But you’ve inspired me to plan two meals for this week: turkey meatloaf and herb-crusted pork tenderloin. We’ll see if I make one of them.

    • Mmmm pork tenderloin and meatloaf–Now I’d like to change my plans! Don’t be impressed–You don’t need a menu come up with food on the fly that is worthy of Le Gawker. So…no comparison, dear friend. 🙂

  2. Have I ever told you that my favorite part about reading your menu each week (other than being inspired and getting ideas from it) are the names of your breakfasts? They are so fun! Can’t tell you if I’ve ever eaten it because I’ve never heard of the names. My favorite? Egg in a hole. Can’t even tell you what a picture when I read that 😉

    • hahaha! Wait, you’ve never heard of egg in a hole!? Sometimes it’s called bird in a hole or frog in a hole..I think there are a million names for it. Cut a hole in the bread, butter both sides, break an egg in the middle and fry it up?

      • No!! I’ve never heard of it or tried it but it sounds delicious! Way more fun than my usual “scramble and place on toast, only to have it fall off as soon as you take a bite” breakfast! How’s that for a name?

  3. San Diego Plumber says:

Wow. Coming across your plan, I suddenly have the urge to plan our meals at home. I really like your choices, too. I know enjoy a lot of shopping at the supermarket and when the time comes that I’ll be planning our meals, I’m sure I’m going to do the shopping for it. 😀

    • Thanks, SD Plumber! I really enjoy menu planning. Even if I make changes mid-week it is still incredibly helpful and keeps me on pace for most of the week. I’d love to see your plans when you do begin! 🙂
