DIY Project: Homemade Coffee Creamer

Today I tackled another do-it-yourself project on my 2012 DIY list: homemade vanilla coffee creamer.  Why haven’t I been making this homemade creamer all my coffee-drinking life?

I followed Deliciously Organic’s recipe and it could not have been easier.  It was so easy, in fact, that I let my 3-year old do all the work.  I merely set out the ingredients and took pictures.  I have a sous chef!  Deliciously Organic has recipes for several different flavor creamers such as pumpkin spice, cinnamon strudel, and peppermint mocha.  I decided to stick with vanilla this time around.

You start with heavy cream, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract (the recipe calls for a vanilla bean, but I’m out of vanilla beans).  That’s it.

Add the milk to a saucepan…

 the cream…

and the maple syrup.

Then whisk it all together over medium heat until it begins to steam.

Take it off the heat and add the vanilla extract.

Cover and let steep for 30 minutes.  At this point I foraged the kitchen for snacks.  You could probably just relax, do a workout video, or prep your coffee:)

Pour into a jar/container and refrigerate.  Voila!  It should keep about 10 days (the same as your milk/creamer) in the fridge.

Scrumptious.  Better than store-bought creamer, in my humble opinion.

Homemade Vanilla Coffee Creamer (from Deliciously Organic)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Whisk together the first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat.  Once the mixture begins to steam (mine also started to simmer slightly), remove from heat and add the vanilla extract.  Cover the pan and steep for 30 minutes.  Pour into a bottle/jar and keep in the refrigerator for about 10 days.

 Thanks Deliciously Organic!

  2. Do u really think its better than my loww fat milk:-) Sounds yummy but might be tempted to drink too much coffee if I used it!

  3. Yummy and what a cute sous chef !!!!!

  4. Wow! I always buy coffemate French vanilla but i will try it! I think it’s good for me. Thank you for good information, Danielle 🙂

    • That’s what I usually buy, too, Dohee. I like this because I have more control over the ingredients. I think if you use real vanilla bean the taste will be even better, but the vanilla extract was good, too! Let me know if you try it. 🙂

lot of work? I’ve no knowledge of computer programming however I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyhow, if you have any suggestions or tips for new blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject nevertheless I simply had to ask. Thanks!
